Dear Registered Voter of the 36th Congressional District of Texas,
I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself as a candidate in the upcoming primary election for the open congressional seat in the 36th Congressional District. As you have probably heard, Steve Stockman has decided to challenge John Cornyn in the primary election for his senate seat. It is a rare occasion when an incumbent chooses to relinquish his or her seat and while we lose the experience and seniority of our former House member, it provides an opportunity for new individuals with different perspectives and experience to contribute to our representative government.
My husband, Dan and I have lived in Crosby, a small community northeast of Houston, for the past 33 years and have raised our three children there. I met my husband in law school at the University of Houston. Prior to graduating from law school, I earned my undergraduate degree in Political Science from James Madison University in Harrisonburg, Virginia. I have been a licensed attorney in Texas since 1981 and was employed by JP Morgan Chase in the Private Bank as a Vice President and Trust Officer. After an 18 year banking career, I became a high school teacher in Galena Park ISD. This experience proved to be a real eye opener as to issues that our children, teachers, parents, and communities face. My classroom experience has prepared me to work with all types of individuals, to be flexible and proactive in problem solving while staying focused on long term goals; skills critical to being an effective legislator.
As a parent, I grow increasingly concerned about what the future holds for our children and grandchildren. I want our young people to have the same optimism and opportunities that my generation and others have had. We cannot afford to have a government that solves all problems and makes people increasingly dependent on the federal government. Nor is it fair to saddle future generations with increasing massive debt. Hard work, self-reliance and personal responsibility are the values needed to get this nation back on course
Finally, I would be proud to represent you, the people of the 36th congressional district. It would be an honor to serve you as my constituents and act as your voice and trusted representative in Washington, D.C. When I teach the early foundations of the American political system of representative government to my high school seniors, I reflect on the genius and spirit of our founding fathers and the foresight and insight they had that enabled them to create a document that is as relevant and viable as it was in 1787. While there are those in our current government that may regard the Constitution as an obstacle or burden, the voters in the 36th Congressional District understand that the rights and freedoms afforded by this glorious document are a source of American pride and must be protected and upheld at all costs. As a conservative, I believe in limited government, individual rights and personal responsibility, and will work to form public policy that supports these ideals and principles critical to a more prosperous America.
Thank you for your support and encouragement throughout the next several weeks as we approach the March 4, 2014 primary. You will have an important decision to make when you cast your ballot for the Republican candidate to the House of Representatives for the 36th Congressional district. I encourage you to visit my website, Facebook page and come to one of my events to learn more about my positions on the important issues our nation currently faces.
